Here’s the mask I made for Halloween 2008… I used Hydrocal as the mold material, and Cold Foam/ Latex as the cast. I do not own a kiln, so I needed to work with the Cold Foam. Since the air bubbles are far bigger & pick up less detail run RAMPANT in cold foam, I needed something that would pick up the detail, so i used thin latex.
Covering the inside of the mold, and THEN injuecting the cold foam allowed it to be pliable enough to manage as well as pick up the sculpture detail.
Here is a gallery of the process… & a view of the mask after 7 hours of wear!
